Death Note Plot Summary

Death Note depicts the story of high school genius Light Yagami. Bored of his life and society in general, Yagami uses a Death Note dropped by the shinigami (death god) Ryuk in order to purge the world of evil. However, matters start getting out of hand when the Japanese Police Force tries to solve the case of the mysterious criminal deaths, and the fact that they are working with master detective L proves a real challenge to Light.

L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word "Killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins.
